Pilates Reformer 1-1

The Pilates Reformer was designed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s and has a moving carriage, springs, ropes and pulleys. It can be more intense than mat based Pilates as it adds resistance to the Pilates exercises via the use of the springs.  The exercises usually work muscles through a larger range of motion which is ideal for strengthening and toning muscles. It is very effective at working the entire body and the more peripheral muscles of the arms and legs in addition to the core.

The Pilates Reformer is also great for rehab purposes when recovering from injuries or operations as it allows exercises in a horizontal plane of motion which is lighter than weight bearing through the legs when vertical. This can speed up recovery by exercising through a large range of motion in a horizontal, controlled movement.

The Pilates Reformer is an incredibly versatile piece of equipment.  The intensity can be varied considerably for each client making it extremely effective to use as a workout or rehab tool. And it’s great fun too!

Times are flexible for 1-1 sessions including weekends and are 45 or 60 minutes.

My back was very weak and creaky after being confined to bed through illness. I felt unable to manage a standard class so booked a series of 45 minute one to ones with Rachel on the Reformer. The Reformer allows you to work at your own level and then increase the resistance as you gain strength. Rachel planned a series of exercises on the Reformer specifically for me which we built up over the weeks until my back was stronger. I would thoroughly recommend this approach as a personal and flexible way to improve health and strength!
